Virtual Depression Part 1

Song Of The Day:
Michael Andrews - Mad World

Katharsis - a big impressive word !!
Today I'll try to analyze my need for virtual emotions. You know, you watch a movie, read a book or listen to some song that makes you happy, sad or something in between. And afterwards you feel a lot better... well, more or less (this is my depressive streak again I guess).
Some people call it escapism, the attempt to live in your head rather than in the real world, others think of it as catharsis. I think for me it's a mix of both. I still don't like to leave my house and deal with outside problems but I also think that living certain situations, even if they're just simulated, can get strain and angst out of your system.
Isn't it weird that a fictional character can touch us more than humans that are part of our actual life ? What is it exactly that's stirred up by this ? Why do I identify and project that much - Because I'm afraid otherwise I'll become numb ??
Probably it's just the need to connect with another person (it doesn't matter if it's through a screen) and I don't allow it myself it in the real word because of my trust and abandonment issues. But in the end I don't think the reason is that important, cause after all, it doesn't really matter what you cry about the moment your tears are flowing, right ?!

So, if you feel like there's a weight on your shoulders but you can't really figure out what it is or how to deal with your Weltschmerz - here's what I do:

a) Law & Order SVU episode: "Fallacy"
  • some clips

  • b) plus "Another Word For Desperate" by Straylight Run
If the powerful performance by Kate Moennig and this song can't move you, your heart is probably even colder than mine !! It's torturous but I actually feel a little better after watching it - as soon as the empathic pain has passed.

    Quote Of The Day:
Passion. It lies in all of us. Sleeping, waiting... And though unwanted, unbidden, it will stir, open its jaws, and howl. It speaks to us, guides us. Passion rules us all. And we obey. What other choice do we have ?
It hurts sometimes more than we can bear. If we could live without passion, maybe we'd know some kind of peace. But we would be hollow. Empty rooms, shuttered and dank. Without passion, we'd be truly dead. ('Buffy:The Vampire Slayer - Passion')
